Some of my fondest memories

As a Grandmother, I now realize the meaning of the saying “If I knew being a Grandparent was so much fun, I would have had them first!”

I’m not sure if Grandma & Grandpa felt that way, but I do know there was enough love for each and everyone of us. We were all special and we each had a place in their hearts. I know I never felt slighted by their attention

It was fun to go to their home. It was a small house, but never seemed that way growing up. We all fit, somehow.

The smells; Grandma’s cooking and Grandpa’s cherry pipe tobacco drifted through the house to welcome anyone who came in. Did they know a stranger? I doubt it very much.

Remember the tire swing in the big tree out back? It was a big hit. Who knows how many hours that swing logged?

The candy dish on the kitchen counter was a big attraction, too. And at the end of the counter was an orange carrot squeaky toy! Who ended up with that treasure? I think that should make its appearance at the reunions.

I hope to see a good turnout this year so we can reminisce as we all have stories. As I sit here writing this; I can see Grandpa sitting in his chair smoking his pipe. I take a deep breath and I can actually smell cherry tobacco. Oh what wonderful memories we will forever treasure.

I love this family and am very thankful to be a part of such caring people.

God bless.
